Oglebay Stifel Fine Arts hosted "Table to Farms: A Culinary Experience." The food was excellent, and I wish I had made room for more. We had everything from lamb tacos, whiskey-flavored bison, tofu burritos, fried green tomatoes, to chocolate espresso cupcakes. It was beyond yummy. Eddie and I bought beets, cucumbers, dragon beans, and zucchini from Herbold Farm and Bluebird Farm, and we made a dinner of it. The farmers were such wonderful people! Let me say this, I heart small, local Farmers. After working with over eighty farmers this summer, I am elated to see an event that focuses on the small business farmer. People that ethically raise meat and sow love in all of their gardens inspire me every day. As a soil tester, I help "the little guy" get loans and grants through the USDA. I wasn't sure if the job would be well suited for me when I took it, but then I realized that my hopes for local sustainability was their project. And after all, better soil means better food!
And here's a picture of me with some of our own plants. Apartment folk have gardens, too.
